Bobby Berna

Roberto “Bobby” Berna (born May 19, 1961 in Quezon City) is a retired Filipino southpaw who fought professionally from 1979 to 1988. After compiling a strong early record, he challenged Jaime Garza in Los Angeles for the vacant WBC super bantamweight title in 1983, but was stopped in the second round. Later that year, Berna rebounded by defeating Suh Sung-in to become the inaugural IBF super bantamweight champion, though he lost the belt in a rematch four months later. He had one more world title shot against Kim Ji-Won before retiring. His career record stands at 38 fights, 31 wins (17 by KO), 6 losses, and 1 draw. Berna remains remembered as the Philippines’ first IBF super bantamweight champion.
