Sonny Boy Jaro

Sonny Boy Villaluz Jaro (born March 24, 1982, in Silay City, Negros Occidental) is a retired Filipino orthodox boxer who competed professionally from 2001 to 2019. After early attempts at world titles against Edgar Sosa and Giovanni Segura, Jaro achieved his breakthrough on March 2, 2012, when he scored a sixth-round knockout of long-reigning champion Pongsaklek Wonjongkam in Thailand to capture the WBC and The Ring flyweight titles. His reign was short-lived, as he lost the belts in his first defense to Toshiyuki Igarashi later that year. Known for his punching power, Jaro retired with a professional record of 66 fights, 45 wins (32 KOs), 16 losses, and 5 draws, remembered as one of Negros Occidental’s world champions who upset a legend to briefly sit atop the flyweight division.
