PhilBoxing.com Special Coverage: Pacquiao vs Marquez II

PACQUIAO-MARQUEZ II

This fight, the Pacquiao-Marquez rematch, should have been made right after the duo's epic battle on May 8, 2004 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas which ended in a draw but negotiations fell through and each fighter went to a different direction.

Pacquiao was to become boxing's hottest commodity after his conquest of Erik Morales in a trilogy and impressive wins against Hector Velazquez, Oscar Larios and Jorge Solis. Marquez, on the other hand, went into oblivion after being defeated by Chris John in Indonesia with a measly purse money $32,000.

Marquez had to climbed back to contention with knockout wins against Terdsak Jandaeng of Thailand and Jimrex Jaca of the Philippines. Marquez's conquest of Marco Antonio Barrera last March 17, 2007 had catapulted the technically-gifted Mexican to the top of the heap and a fight with Pacquiao at this time is the most compelling fight to be made in boxing.

However, the off-the-ring batttle between Top Rank (currently acting as Pacquiao's promoter) and Golden Boy Promotions (Marquez's promoter) has made this fight a little difficult to make. Follow the drama of this potential mega-fight by sifting through related news articles as early as three years ago.
