PhilBoxing.com Special Coverage: Pacquiao vs Valero

MANNY PACQUIAO vs EDWIN VALERO

Touted as the most explosive fight on the horizon, a Pacquiao-Valero fight is a boxing fan's dream. Valero burst into the boxing firmament with a spectacular 17 knockout wins in the very first round in his first 17 fights sending tremors in the featherweight division. Some have doubted Valero's run saying that Valero only fought patsies but Valero proved his worth by knocking out the highly regarded Vicente Mosquera of Panama en route to capturing Mosquera's WBA super featherweight belt. Valero is now 22-0 winning all knockouts.

Pacquiao, on the other hand, have registered a 12-1-2 slate with 10 KOs against a much higher opposition ever since he caught the world boxing audience by storm when he knocked out Lehlohonolo Ledwaba in 2001 to capture the IBF super bantam title. Pacquiao had demolished future hall of famers and Mexican legends Marco Antonio Barrera and Erik Morales and had knocked down three times the supremely-conditioned Juan Manuel Marquez in the first round en route to becoming boxing's foster child.

A Pacquiao-Valero fight at this time could probably draw comparison to a Hagler-Hearns fight where the winner would be decided on which fighter could endure the opponent's power.
