Efren ?Bata? Reyes has dropped to third place in the International Pool Tour voting by pool enthusiasts to pick the top two players who will face off in the IPT Viewers Choice Ultimate 8-Ball Challenge match on April 29 in the US.
Teenager Austin Murphy has suddenly skyrocketed to the lead from longtime front-runner Vilmos Foldes of Hungary sending Reyes who surged into second spot after an appeal for Filipinos to vote for ?The Magician? appeared on the widely popular philboxing.com site.
As of the latest tally Murphy who came out of nowhere has 19.06 percent, Foldes 17.07 percent and Reyes 16.92 percent. Viewers have a chance until midnight April 11 (US Central time) to cast their votes.
At the age of 11, Murphy won the Billiards Congress of America junior national championship for players 14 years and under in Ann Arbor, Michigan in June 2005.
In September that same year Murphy won the World Championship for players 18 years and under.
The talented youngster who started playing pool at the age of 5 has been quoted as saying ?you need to know about geometry and physics? to be a good pool player.
Filipinos have been requested to visit the IPT site, register and vote for Reyes who together with Francisco ?Django? Bustamante is the only player left among the field which has been cut to the top ten. Bustamante is in ninth place with 1.62 percent of the votes.
