Nevada State Athletic Commission executive director Keith Kizer has clarified the issue over 8-ounce and 10-ounce gloves.
In an email to Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today, Kizer said the earlier belief that fighters in the lightweight division had to wear 10-ounce gloves while the Commission conducted a study on the effects of wearing 8 or 10-ounce gloves was not correct.
Kizer said ?boxers 135 pounds or less wear 8-oz gloves and have for quite some time. The study affected boxers only at junior welterweight and welterweight.?
Top Rank promoter Bob Arum also maintained that lightweights such as reigning WBC champion David Diaz (34-1, 17 KO's) and Filipino ring icon Manny Pacquiao 46-3-2, 35 KO's) who will clash at the Mandalay Bay Resort Hotel & Casino on June 28 will both wear 8-ounce gloves although Arum did concede it may be a plus for Pacquiao who is regarded as the harder puncher.
