TAGUM City outplayed Valenzuela City, 6-4 in the Open Division of the Atty. Jong Guevarra Cup 2024 Second Conference to enter the semi-finals of Association of Chess Amateurs of the Philippines Inc. [ACAPI] held today, September 24.

Tagum now plays Davao City thru the Chess.com platform, knock-out game with the winner entering the semi-finals on September 27.

Tagum started slow with Valenzuela taking an early 3-0 lead.

But Tagum bounced back with victories by Knarf Lawrence Batislaong, John Gerald Esencia, Randy Ebao and Warren Aton.

Kim Falcatan also played for Tagum City Chess team owned by Homer Rotulo with Esencia as the playing manager.

Valencia was represented by John Lawrence Coronado, Jimmy Ty, Francis Talaboc and Joshua Vila.

The games were confirmed by ACAPI arbiter and technical committee Ely Acas, and supported by ACAPI president and founder Rey Urbiztondo.
