Filipino former champ Mark "Magnifico" Magsayo is set to face Jorge Mata Cuéllar of Mexico in a non-title 10-round super featherweight bout on the prelims of Pacquiao-Barrios on July 19 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
The 30-year-old Magsayo (27-2, 18 KOs) from Tagbilaran, Bohol, comes from winning his last three fights since moving up to 130 lbs, wanting a new shot at a world title.
Meanwhile, the 24-year-old Jorge Mata Cuellar (21-2-2, 13 KOs) from Guadalajara, México, lands here after securing five straight victories, being eager to defeat the former Filipino champion to boost his world rankings.
Currently, Magsayo is ranked #2 by the WBC and #3 by the WBO, while Mata holds the #9 spot in the WBO rankings.
Obviously, a win is crucial for both fighters, setting the stage for an intense 10-round war.
For Magsayo, a victory is indeed essential to regain momentum for a potential world title challenge in the super featherweight division.
Co-promoted by MP Promotions and PBC, can Magsayo deliver an impressive performance against the Mexican contender?
