Grandmaster Rogelio "Joey" Antonio Jr., 13-time Philippine Open chess champion; multiple volleyball champion Alyssa "The Phenom" Valdez; and Adamson standout Jaochen Gail Cuenca led the inauguration of the Calapan City Coliseum in Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro.

All three athletes are natives of Calapan City.

The newly inaugurated Calapan City Coliseum also hosted the opening of the 21st season of the Calapan City Athletic Association (CCAA), led by City Mayor Doy Leachon and 1st District Board Member RL Leachon, the 10th Sangguniang Panlungsod headed by City Vice Mayor Bim Ignacio, and the City Youth and Sports Development Department headed by Mr. Marvin Panahon. Also in attendance were 1st District Representative Arnan C. Panaligan, 2nd District Representative Alfonso "PA" Umali, Provincial Vice Gov. CA Jojo Perez, and several members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.

The day began with the blessing of the Calapan City Coliseum, which was officially opened to the public.

The Calapan City Coliseum — a project made possible by the taxes of every Calapeño — was initiated during the term of former City Mayor and incumbent 1st District Rep. Arnan C. Panaligan, with its final phase completed this year to open the coliseum for public use.

Student-athletes from seven colleges and universities in the city were also presented, ready to compete in various sporting events. Mindoro State University serves as the host institution for this 21st edition of the games. — Marlon Bernardino —
