World Boxing Council president Don Jose Sulaiman is recovering well after undergoing a heart bypass at the UCLA Medical Center today.

The surgery was necessary since two of his arteries were 80 percent blocked.

The Manila Standard learned that the operation lasted almost eleven hours and the 82 year old leader of the premier professional boxing organization in the world would have to spend two days in the Intensive Care Unit where he will be weaned off the artificial respirator.

Sulaiman will have to spend an additional four days in the ICU after which he is likely to stay at the UCLA Medical Center for an additional week.

Don Jose?s son, WBC executive director Mauricio Sulaiman and the Sulaiman family have expressed their gratitude to all those who sent ?get well? messages and phoned to check on Don Jose?s condition and to wish him well.

Viva Sports, the Manila Standard and philboxing.com extend our sincere best wishes to Don Jose and wish him a speedy and full recovery and God?s blessings.
