Mauricio Sulaiman is the new president of the World Boxing Council. He was elected unanimously with each of the premier world boxing organization?s ten federations and every since member of the Board of Governors voting for him.
They endorsed and praised Mauricio who succeeds his legendary father Don Jose Sulaiman who steered the WBC as its president for 38 years.
Don Jose passed away last month after critical heart surgery in California.
Mauricio Sulaiman had served his late father as executive secretary of the WBC and was strongly endorsed by some of the biggest names in boxing including Don King, the eminent Japanese businessman-sportsman Akihiko Honda and leading Mexican promoters including Zanfer?s Fernando Beltran.
The WBC reported that before the vote each governor paid a personal tribute to Don Jose and there was what was described as ?a superb, emotional , emotive film celebrating his life and huge array of lasting achievements.?
Newly elected president Mauricio Sulaiman stressed that the only way the WBC can continue and flourish is through unity.
He thanked the governors who had ?given the best years of their lives to give his father ?Don Jose- the best years of his life.?
Mauricio Sulaiman vowed to work to make the WBC ever better and to continue with the many projects Don Jose had left.
Mauricio said ?I will always be the son of Jose Sulaiman. I will do my best to make him proud and I will work to make boxing safer.?
