Guytain.
Extreme Fighting Championship (EFC) in South Africa will investigate the death of cage fighter Booto Guytain who died last Wednesday after suffering a head injury in a fight last week.
South African media reported that Guytain was a late replacement and faced Keron Davies who was making his debut in a middleweight mixed-martial-arts contest in Carnival City.
Welterweight Davies whose original opponent reportedly withdraw because of injury stepped up one division according to EFC Africa president Cairo Howarth.
The fight was stopped in the third round and Guytain was treated at the fight venue before being taken to hospital for treatment of a swelling in his brain.
Howarth was quoted as saying ?we?re getting independent investigators to come through and have a look, to see if there is anything we can do to make the sport safer.?
The investigators will come from Martial Arts, South Africa.
In contrast with professional boxing in South Africa which is regulated by an act of parliament, Extreme Fighting is run by a private company owned by Howarth anfd his two brothers Calvin and Silas.
Media quoted Howarth who claimed the company went ?far above and beyond? what was prescribed by Boxing South Africa who mentioned that at each event they had ?two trauma doctors and 12 paramedics.?
