About Bernabe Villacampo

Bernabe Villacampo (June 11, 1943 – June 4, 2022) was a Filipino southpaw who competed at flyweight from 1962 to 1979. Rising from humble beginnings in Toledo City, Cebu, he captured the WBA World Flyweight Championship in 1969 with a unanimous decision victory over Hiroyuki Ebihara in Osaka, Japan. Villacampo defended the crown once before losing it in 1970 to Berkrerk Chartvanchai. He later won the Philippines GAB Flyweight Title in 1977 and scored a notable knockout of future world champion Shigeo Nakajima in 1978. Known for his punching power—26 knockouts in 39 wins—he retired with a professional record of 65 fights, 39 wins, 21 losses, and 5 draws. Villacampo remains remembered as one of Cebu’s world champions who brought international recognition to Philippine boxing.
