GENERAL SANTOS CITY ? Ma. Cristina Mejia Dapidran, the 93-year old grandma of world eight-division boxing champion and Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao, succumbed to pneumonia around 7:00 a.m. Wednesday after battling with the disease for a couple of months.
Lola Cristina?s remains was brought to St. Peter Memorial Home along National Highway in Apopong village here.
When Lola Cristina was still alive, she used to live with Mommy Dionisia, the fourth in a brood of seven.
The Filipino boxing superstar said his grandma was a loving and strong person.
?She single-handedly raised her seven children when our grandfather was gone. No wonder my mom is also a strong woman,? Pacquiao said.
The Pinoy ring icon described his grandma as humble and very religious person.
She was hospitalized in December until the early part of January but the attending doctor finally gave up on her when her lungs reportedly withered.
She was brought home where the family members administered breathing aids and respiratory devices to prolong her life.
?She?s a great loss to us. May she find true happiness and peace in the lap of our loving God,? Pacquiao said.
