The president of Venezuela, Hugo Ch?vez, has awarded WBA super-featherweight king Edwin Valero with the Orden Libertador (Order of Liberation) at the Sala R?os Reyna del Complejo Cultural Teatro Teresa Carre?o in Venezuela.

“It is with great pride for us all, this fighting young man and world champion. With pride, and in the name of all Venezuelan towns, I have placed in the chest of Edwin the Order of Liberator. This order will be bestowed to the young Venezuelan fighter and champion”, Chavez was quoted by Notifight as saying.

Edwin Valero, who was accompanied by his wife and their two small children, is a native of the of Bolero Alto, Merida state. In 2006, Valero crowned himself the WBA champion in Panama by defeating local hero Vicente Mosquera. He has so far defended the title twice this year.

Valero says he is looking forward to a bout with the iconic Manny Pacquiao, while WBC supe-featherweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez is another name on his radar screen.
