?Axe Man? Walters, the devastating puncher who crushed Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire to win the WBA title by a 6th round TKO at the StubHub Center in Carson City, California in October last year, has lost it on the scales when he failed to make the 126 pound limit for his title defense against Miguel Marriaga.
Walters first stepped on the scales at 127.4 pounds and when he tried to sweat it out and returned after 90 minutes he still failed to make the weight, tipping the scales at 127 pounds.
This means that only Marriaga can win the title should he beat Walters in the bout which will take place at The Theater in New York City?s Madison Square Garden.
Top Rank boxing executive Carl Moretti said Walters ?put in an honest effort? and did what he could to try and make the 126 pound limit to try and make the weight but failed.
