Filipino lightweight Ariel “King Kong” Omongos moved up in weight to battle WBF Asia Pacific light welterweight champion Jed Syger in a six round non-title bout in Sydney, Australia late Monday and surprised the champion with a second round TKO win.
Referee Anthony Shipley stopped the bout at 1:44 to give the 20 year old Omongos who had a record of only two wins against seven losses and one KO a big, morale-boosting victory.
It was only the second loss for Syger whose record dropped to 9-2 with 2 KO’s. The 23 year old Australian won the vacant WBF title with a split decision over another Sydney-based Filipino Junmar Dulog last April 27 while Omongos was coming off a six round unanimous decision loss to talented Mohamed Elomar last May 4.
