A female Thai drug dealer who became the WBC light flyweight champion in a fight refereed by well-respected Angeles City based New Zealander Bruce McTavish will be released from prison this week.
Siriporn Taweesuk beat Japan’s Ayaka Miyano in a title fight staged within the high-security Klong Prem prison compound in Bangkok last April and immediately after her victory the justice ministry began working on her parole.
Nicknamed “Samson”, the 24 year old boxer will walk out of jail a year-and-a-half before her prison term ends according to the Corrections Department director general Nathee Chitsawang. He said Siriporn’s release was “a reward for her good behavior and her fame.”
Siriporn was serving a ten year sentence for selling small amounts of drugs in a store she operated.
She is scheduled to defend her world title in Japan next month.
