Undefeated Filipino Featherweight prospect Mark ?Magnifico? Magsayo who arrived in LA late May to train under International Boxing Hall of Famer Freddie Roach, is in San Francisco with stable mates Albert and Jason Pagara for the brothers? July 9 fight.
After his spectacular domination over Lancaster native and world title challenger Chris ?The Hitman? Avalos last April as an undercard to the Donaire-Bedak world championship, Magsayo was sent to the country to further develop the boxing skills he has been growing to be known of. It wasn?t long until the Boxing community took notice of Magsayo, who sports an undefeated record of 14 wins with 11 knockouts, especially when he beat undefeated Mexican prospect Yardley Suarez during his US debut last year and knocked out Avalos after he got sent down the canvas in an earlier round.
While commended by the media and fans for showing what could be something to look out for, it was ALA Promotions International President/CEO Michael Aldeguer who claimed Mark needed more training, as he stated that Mark ?has not accomplished anything yet and has a long way to go.. Magsayo still has so much weakness in his arsenal that needs work in the gym as shown in the Avalos fight.? He added, ?He is not ready yet; he is far from fighting for a World title.?
However admitting that the fight with Avalos was a tough one, Aldeguer confirmed that the young prospect needed that certain kind of match to assess if he is ready for the next level. As a result, Magsayo spent three weeks training with Roach at the Wild Card Gym.
In an interview just before he started his sparring sessions, Magsayo conceded he still has a lot to work on before his next scheduled fight in the US late this year. He?s shared he is aware he needs to develop his defense and focus when he fights, but with the addition of the conditioning he?s recently went through, promised to show a better fighter on September.
