Pacquiao’s chief-of-staff Jake Joson quoted Pacquiao as saying there was "nothing new" in the statements made by Barrera. However, he stressed that from the start of his own career, Pacquiao always underscored the fact that he "fought for the pride and honor of the Philippines and all Filipinos." Following the Barrera statements, Joson said Pacquiao was "more determined" to win.

Trainer Freddie Roach told Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today shortly after Pacquiao worked out at the RWS Gym that "Manny had eight good rounds" against David Rodela, the Mexican lightweight and Filipinos Arnel Tinampay and Aaron Melgerejo.

However, Roach said Pacquiao "still has a little cold and phlegm in his chest but he’s fine. No problem."

Reacting to reports of trouble between members of Team Pacquiao in his LA apartment, Joson said it was "a blessing in disguise" that Pacquiao decided to train in the Philippines although the quarrels didn’t involve Pacquiao himself. Joson made it clear that when Pacquiao arrives in Los Angeles on September 22 he wants peace and quiet so he could focus undisturbed on his upcoming fight. Joson added that the apartment would be cleared of all unnecessary individuals.
