CEBU CITY -- For providing opportunities to deserving Filipino boxers to fight for regional as well as world boxing championships, the Games and Amusement Board (GAB) on Sunday (September 30) awarded World Boxing Organization (WBO) Asia Pacific chairman Leon P. Panoncillo, Jr. with certificate of appreciation before the start of the WBO minimumweight title fight between Donnie Nietes of the Philippines and undefeated Thai KO artist Pornsawan Kratingdaenggym at the grand ballroom of the Waterfront Hotel here.

The certificate, handed by GAB Commissioner Angel P. Bautista, was signed by GAB Chairman Eric R. Buhain and Bautista and was done ?this 25th day of August 2007.?

It reads: ?In recognition of his invaluable contributions to Philippine Boxing by providing opportunities to deserving Filipino boxers to fight for regional as well as world boxing championships thereby putting the country permanently in the World Boxing Map.?

Bautista said Panoncillo has been instrumental in giving deserving Filipino boxers world ratings.

?Because of him, many Filipino boxers are now rated in the world. Even Oscar Dela Hoya has started to notice the many magnificent things Mr. Panoncillo has been bringing the WBO,? Bautista said.
