Filipino Alex Aroy, who lost a controversial decision in a WBC International minimum weight title fight last September 21 against undefeated Zukisani Kwayiba when the fight was called off after seven rounds when there was a power failure at the venue in South Africa, gets another shot at the title but this time in the higher light flyweight division.
Well known South African promoter Branco Malenkovic informed Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today that ?it is unfortunate that Aroy lost a very close fight against Kwayiba? but attributed it to the fact that the Filipino had ?a major problem? making the weight and spent two hours in the effort.
Malenkovic said ?in the light of his good performance and although it is against the WBC rules for a losing fighter to get approval for another championship? he has scheduled a November 30 title shot against undefeated WBC International light flyweight champion Phumzile Matyhila who has a record of 15-0 with 9 knockouts.
The leading South Africa promoter said he would always try to give the first opportunity to Filipino boxers ?for the simple reason that they put up great fights. ?
