After hard rounds of negotiation, Golden Boy Promotions and Gary Shaw Promotions have secured the elimination bout between Australian Vic ?The Raging Bull? Darchinyan and Filipino Z ?The Dream? Gorres.
In a message to the ALA Boxing camp, international matchmaker nonpareil Sampson Lewkowicz announced that the mandated IBF No. 1 super flyweight eliminator will be held on March 1 next year, and contrary to what both camps have initially hoped that the fight will be staged in either fighter?s home soil, it will be on the undercard of Israel Vasquez vs Rafael Marquez contest for the WBC super bantamweight title.
The deal has been clenched as the November 8 deadline is closing in.
The Armenian-born Darchinyan carries a record of 29 wins and one loss with 23 by way of knockout. A strong puncher, the 31-year-old former IBF and IBO flyweight king suffered defeat by a fifth-round knockout at the hands of another Filipino Nonito Donaire last July.
Gorres (27-2-1, KO 15) is currently IBF No. 7. Rising from his defeat at the hands of Fernando Montiel of Mexico in June, he dropped Mexican Eric Ortiz in August to win the IBF super flyweight eliminator and became the IBF intercontinental super flyweight champ.
Darchinyan recently vowed to knock Gorres out. The Darchinyan-Gorres ring combat will give both fighters a chance to take a shot on the IBF super flyweight crown.
