Hardly had former three-division world champion Jeff Fenech been chosen as the boxers representative at the recent WBC 45th Annual Convention in Manila and vowed to crackdown on mismatches, a glaring mismatch took place in Australia.

One of several Sydney-based Filipino boxers Ariel Omongos battled the one-time sparring partner of ring idol Manny Pacquiao, undefeated Leonardo Zappavigna and as expected suffered a fourth round TKO after being dropped twice earlier in the round.

At the end of the welterweight bout held at the Brisbane Convention Center, Zappavigna?s record improved to 12-0 with 9 knockouts while the hapless Filipino dropped to 4-12 with 3 knockouts. It was the seventh stoppage suffered by the 21 year old Omongos. Last October 12 he was knocked out in the first round by Oyewale Omotoso.

It was Zappavigna?s second win over Omongos whom he knocked out in the first round in their last meeting. The Australian has padded his record by beating a string of Filipinos among them Junmar Dulog (TKO 2 and UD 4), Jun Geraldino (KO1), Robert Oyan (UD10) and Rolando Gerongco (UD6).
