Saying he is back in the corner of former IBF flyweight titlist Vic Darchinyan, Australia’s top boxing agent and cornerman Angel Hyder described himself as the former world champion’s “secret weapon” when Darchinyan battles one-time world title challenger Z “The Dream” Gorres in a 12-round world championship elimination fight at the ballroom of the Cebu Waterfront Hotel and Casino on Feb. 2 in Cebu City.
Hyder arrived in Manila Monday night (Jan. 28) and proceeded to Cebu the following day.
Hyder describes the much awaited epic battle dubbed “Now or never” as “a very good fight because both Gorres and Vic are so good.”
“I am now back in the corner with Vic,” Hyder said in e-mail. “He asked for me to return after we lost to Nonito Donaire.”
Hyder said if he was with Darchinyan the night he lost to Donaire in a startling upset, “he would not have lost this fight.”
He added: “This month I have just had Danny Green win the world title after he lost to Mundine. Green also asked for me to be back in his corner and he just won the world title. I just came back from Jakarta were I worked with Chris John.”
Hyder, whose boxer Sakio Bika won the Contender title, said his other bother Gary St .Clair is in London fighting Amir Khan “but I stayed to work with Darchinyan to help him win this fight (versus Gorres).”
“Vic Darchinyan has a secret weapon: me. He needs it as Gorres is a very good fighter,” he concluded.
