World Boxing Council light flyweight champion Edgar Sosa says he wants an optional defense before facing Filipino veteran Juanito Rubillar who earned a title shot after defeating former champion Omar Nino in a title eliminator last weekend in Mexico.

Well known boxing writer and TV reporter James Blears reported that Sosa planned to take a short holiday before returning to the gym to prepare for an optional defense in late August or early September. He said such a fight could take place in Haiti, Japan or the United States and then he?d be ready for Rubillar. Blears noted that Sosa has fought all of his defenses in just fourteen months.

While he fought on the same card as Rubillar and won by an eighth round TKO over Japanese southpaw Takashi Kunishige, Sosa didn?t see Rubillar?s split decision win over Omar Ninor he had see Rubillar?s two title fights against Mexican warrior Jorge Arce.

Sosa praised Rubillar as a fighter with a wealth of experience.

According to Blears, Sosa said ?we?e going to carefully study Juanito and train extremely hard for the fight against him.?

The WBC champion described his extremely busy schedule as the best way to stay sharp and fighting fit said his plan to fight three more times this year and once or twice more after that before moving up to flyweight.
