Filipino ring idol Manny Pacquiao is in no rush to fight Ricky ?The Hitman? Hatton and is prepared to wait.
That?s the word from Pacquiao?s adviser Michael Koncz after Hatton?s lawyer Gareth Williams who admitted that while some discussions had taken place about a Pacquiao-Hatton fight this November and while Hatton wants to do the fight, it won?t happen until next year.
In an overseas telephone conversation with Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today, Koncz said ?we are not in a rush. If everything is where we want it to be, then we?ll do the fight. We can wait.?
Koncz said that while there have been initial discussions the Pacquiao camp wants to see ?how the negotiations are going to pan out.?
He said while ?it?s a fight that Manny wants we are not going to sacrifice a lot of things to get the fight. If the terms are alright, then we?ll do it.?
Talk of a Pacquiao-Hatton clash at 140 pounds isn?t something new. Top Rank promoter Bob Arum told us as early as January 5 that HBO and the Hatton handlers talked about the possibility of a Pacquiao fight while he was having lunch with Pacquiao at the Mandalay Bay Resort Hotel and Casino. Arum said then that HBO boss Ross Greenberg was having lunch with the Hatton people in New York at the same time.
Arum said they were talking about a possible Pacquiao-Hatton fight later this year and it was ?a reality.?
