August 8, 2025, Benghazi – Today at Benina Stadium in Benghazi, Libya, Argentinean featherweight power puncher Mirco Cuello continued his destructive pro boxing campaign by winning the vacant WBA Interim Featherweight Championship with a second-round knockout over formerly undefeated Sergio Rios of Sonora, Mexico.
With the great Mike Tyson seated at ringside, Cuello (16-0, 13 KOs), of Arroyo Seco, Santa Fe, Argentina, the WBA #1 contender, dropped Rios (19-1, 7 KOs), the WBA #15 with a lead right hand late in the first round and then finished the job with two knockdowns early in round two.
First came a left hand to the head that downed Rios with 30 seconds to go in the round and then a left hook to the body that ended things for good seconds later.
Cuello’s promoter, Sampson Lewkowicz says Cuello has finally arrived on the world stage.
“No one can ignore what Mirco Cuello just did to an undefeated top contender like Rios,” said Lewkowicz. “Mirco Cuello is the next Argentinean superstar. No one in the division can take his power for 12 rounds. No one.”
