American current WBC super middleweight world champion Terrence Crawford has been stripped of his title, which he won last September against Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.

The WBC made the very difficult decision, but they had been in constant communication with Crawford and his representatives regarding outstanding fines related to his fight with Israel Madrimov and Canelo Alvarez. They received no response regarding the situation after the fine was reduced due to Crawford's high earnings from the Canelo fight.

75% of the revenue from these fines is sent to a fund administered by the Nevada Boxing Commission for various benefits to many boxers, primarily in terms of healthcare.

The WBC has now indicated that top contenders Hamza Sheeraz (Great Britain) and Christian Mbilli (France) will compete for the vacant WBC super middleweight world championship.
