World Boxing Council president Don Jose Sulaiman has indicated that the WBC Board of Governors is very close to making a decision to declare the super featherweight interim title fight between Humberto Soto and Francisco Lorenzo a no contest and to award the title to Soto.

The board of governors is scheduled to decide Thursday with the only issue to be resolved being whether to award the title to Soto after he was disqualified by referee Joe Cortez in a hugely controversial decision. Sulaiman said Lorenzo was ?getting a beating and there was no foul? when Cortez disqualified Soto.

He also pointed out that Cortez looked like he was going to stop the fight twice but he didn?t.

Sulaiman hinted at the possibility that the WBC will name Soto the interim champion, allow him to have one voluntary defense since Lorenzo cannot fight again until December because of the bad beating he took and then order a rematch in case Soto retains his interim title.

Don Jose Sulaiman said the Nevada State Athletic Commission has given Lorenzo a ?medical suspension until December? Sulaiman revealed that Lorenzo had a broken nose, two bad cuts on his face and also a big cut inside his mouth.

Given this scenario Sulaiman said he would wait for the voting before finalizing any decision.
