Alice Kate Aparri of Baguio City scored a spectacular win to erase the pain of back-to-back losses suffered by the Philippines in the first two days of the Asian Women?s Boxing Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan.

Aparri never gave South Korea?s So Ming-Kyung a chance in their flyweight showdown and won an easy 9-1 decision.

The Laos Southeast Asian Games gold medalist opened aggressively and nailed the South Korean with accurate combinations while using excellent footwork to stay out of trouble en route to a 3-0 lead in the first round.

Appari who is a physical fitness buff continued to catch her Korean opponent even as she didn?t let her score a point in the second round .

However, So managed to sneak in a solid left midway in the third that accounted for her solitary point as the round saw a 7-1 combined score of the 5 judges in favor of Aparri..

The Korean girl went all out in the final round but could do nothing against the skilled 25 year-old Filipina who credited her strong performance to hard work.

Aparri said ?Even when I?m not in training, I hit the gym and lift weights. It helps me develop my power. And I needed it today to avenge the losses of Josie (Gabuco) and Nesthy (Petecio)?

In the SEA Games in Laos last December the Baguio girl, she scored two knock-out victories en route to a gold medal finish in the 48 Kg category.

With the win, Aparri is assured of a bronze medal here and will face Boranbaeva of Kazakhstan in the semi-finals Saturday.
