Former WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan is taking no chances as he prepares for his WBC title fight against champion Danny Garcia at the Mandalay Bay on Sunday, Manila Time in a fight to be telecast in the Philippines by AKTV IBC 13 at 12:00 noon on ?Big Time Bakbakan.?
The 2000 Athens Olympic Games silver medalist has brought in conditioning trainerRuben Tabares after his previously fruitful relationship with Manny Pacquiao?s strength and conditioning coach ended recently.
Khan decided to bring in Tabares who has been working with his friend, the former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye.
According to SkySports in London , Tabares? attention to detail was a key factor in Haye?s success in moving up from cruiserweight to heavyweight and Khan is reportedly seeing how impressive his new conditioning coach?s methods are.
Sky Sports quoted Khan as saying that ?working with Ruben has been brilliant.?
He said that rather strangely Tabares made him change his toothpaste to a non-fluoride toothpaste claiming that fluoride is apparently dangerous.
Khan conceded that he is someone who listens to what his trainers tell him ?even if it sounds a little bit strange.?
Khan who is confident of winning the WBC title from Garcia described Tabares as ?an amazing strength and conditioning coach, one of the best I?ve had.?
