WBO/IBF super bantamweight champion Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire may have to wait for the fight he?s always wanted against Mexican warrior Jorge ?Travieso? Arce after Arce requested a chance for a tune-up fight before facing Donaire.
BoxingScene reported that the former four division world champion said he is willing to fight Donaire but requested a tune-up fight first since his last fight against Jesus Rojas was stopped after an accidental foul in the second round which prevented Arce from continuing last June 9.
Arce is reportedly looking for a tune-up fight on September 1 in Mexico which means that if he persists in his request Top Rank promoter Bob Arum would have to look for another credible opponent for Donaire who is currently shooting a remake of an old ?Flash? Elorde movie in the Philippines.
The name that immediately comes to mind is WBC champion Toshiaki Nishioka who was at ringside for Donaire?s IBF title winning bout against South Africa?s Jeffrey Mathebula and told Donaire he would like to fight him next.
Donaire himself said he would gladly fight Nishioka and described him as a good fighter and a gentleman.
Efforts to contact Arum were unsuccessful. He is preparing to visit the Philippines with wife Lovee on Wednesday when he will meet with Manny Pacquiao to discuss plans for a scheduled November 10 bout which Pacquiao has indicated may not necessarily take place if a fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr can be negotiated for early next year.
