Originally slated to fight tough Mexican Armando Torres in a Golden Boy ? Canelo Alvarez Promotions fight card in Michoacan, Mexico on September 30, Manila Time, hard-hitting Denver Cuello will now face Ivan Meneses.
The WBC informed the Manila Standard that Cuello, the WBC minimum weight Silver champion will face Meneses in a ten round bout.
Meneses who has a record of 18-10-1 with 10 knockouts is the WBC International champion and is coming off a twelve round unanimous decision over Luis Ceja for the vacant IBF Latino light flyweight title last July 28.
It was a noteworthy performance by Meneses since Ceja had lost only one while winning 22 fights with 18 knockouts.
Cuello is certainly one of the biggest punchers in the lower weight divisions as shown by his recent 1st round TKO over Carlos Perez to win the silver title last October 15, 2011 and his rousing 2nd round TKO over the fancied Ganigan Lopez last May 19 in Mexico.
Cuello?s promoter/manager and trainer Aljoe Jaro earlier told us, his fighter is prepared to take on anybody they put in the ring with him.
