The World Boxing Council has announced a technology breakthrough in scoring fights which was used last October 13 by the WBC judges in a fight between female boxers Mariana Juarez and Ava Knight at the Palace of Sports in Mexico City.

Knight, a top-ranking flyweight who is nicknamed ?Lady of Boxing? won the WBC Diamond Belt with a ten round decision over ?La Barbie? Juarez with all three judges, using the new electronic device with two judges scoring the fight for Knight by a 97-93 margin and the third judge giving it to Knight 96-94.

The new scoring system referred to as ?Electronic Ringside Scoring? is, according to the WBC, designed to ?leave behind the traditional scorecards.?

The tablet was brought to Mexico by ?Mochican Sun? and the WBC reported that ?it is a very effective system whereby the scores are sent to a computer that makes the immediate sum of the scores.?

WBC president Don Jose Sulaiman said he is ?very pleased with this system because with this, the judges pay more attention to the fight rather than pondering their scorecards.?
