Hard-hitting Filipino Denver Cuello will be at ringside along with promoter/manager Aljoe Jaro to watch showdown in China between China's Xiong Zhao Zhong and Mexico's Javier Martinez for the WBC minimumweight title.
Jaro had agreed to step aside at the request of WBC president Don Jose Sulaiman so Zhong could face Mexico's Martinez for the title with Cuello guaranteed a mandatory shot at the winner.
Sulaiman thanked Jaro and Cuello for their gesture which would enable the WBC to push the growth and interest in professional boxing in China which Jaro said is a huge market and worthy of attention.
Jaro told the Manila Standard that he expects the Cuello title fight to take place early next year, depending on who wins.
He told us that if Zhong wins, it could be held in China or if Martinez wins, he was prepared to fight in Mexico although Jaroh would also wish to stage the title fight in Manila if possible.
