SAN FRANCISCO -- Twice last month, the Golden State Warriors were beaten by the Houston Rockets. But the February 5 encounter at the Toyota Center was especially humiliating as the Rockets presided over a 140-109 blowout that was highlighted by a staggering 23 three-point shots made.
Today at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California, the Warriors have vengeance on their minds as they face their tormentors and gun for a season-tying best fifth consecutive home victory.
As usual, the Warriors will rely heavily on gunner Stephen Curry, who is averaging a team-high 22.1 points per game this season. Heavy lifting will also be expected from All-Star David Lee, who is a proven double-double machine with his 18.9 points and 11.3 rebounds per game average. Rounding up Golden State's triple-threat is budding star Klay Thompson, a streak shooter who fires 16.5 markers an outing.
With a 35-27 slate, the Warriors are No.6 overall in the Western Conference and they will have their hands full dealing with the James Harden and the Rockets, who at 33-29, are No.7 and just two games behind the Warriors.
Averaging 26.3 points and 4.8 assists per game, Harden is a tough customer, but the Rockets are a poor road team, winning only six of their last 18 contests away from home. (JSM)
