ABS-CBN Vice President for Sports Peter Musgni was in Cebu yesterday to inspect the Cebu City Sports Center site for the February 24 WBO super flyweight title fight between mandatory challenger Z “The Dream” Gorres and Mexico’s reigning world champion Fernando Montiel.
In a long distance telephone conversation with Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today, Musgni however said the ABS-CBN coverage was “still not a done deal” and that he had met with the group of promoter Sammy Gello-ani adding “it is still exploratory but hopefully it will be okay.”
Musgni said that they were “making an ocular of the place and until we see the signatures this is not a done deal by any stretch.” However, the top sports executive of the giant broadcast network conceded that “in principle we have agreed on most of the major points” and expressed the hope they could “seal the deal soon" because time was running out.
Musgni revealed that right now he was the only one involved from ABS-CBN and he would have to find out exactly whether they would pre-empt programs on Channel 2 for the fight coverage, telecast the fights on Studio 23 or work out a combination of both. He also said the fights would be aired on the Filipino Channel, TFC but was not sure on whether it would be on a pay-per-view basis.
