June 13, 2025 – Promoter Sampson Lewkowicz has parted ways amicably with top lightweight contender Edwin De Los Santos and given him his unconditional release.

Last Saturday, June 7, The Dominican Republic’s De Los Santos (16-2, 14 KOs) saw his WBO Championship challenge against Keyshawn Davis canceled when Davis weighed in 4.3 lbs. overweight. Citing concerns for his fighter’s health, Lewkowicz made the final call to cancel the nationally televised main event.

De Los Santos also challenged Shakur Stevenson in November 2023.

Lewkowicz says he bears De Los Santos no ill will and wishes him the best for the rest of his promising career.

“Edwin is a warrior, and I support him and still consider him a personal friend,” said Lewkowicz of the offensively gifted southpaw. “There is no animosity between us. What happened last week was very unfortunate. I did what I thought was best, but Edwin won’t let his fighting spirit agree, so I gave him his release. I know he will go on to do great things in the ring and become a world champion. I will still be cheering for him to do so and he can always come to me for advice.”
