Our very own IBF minimumweight world champion Pedro Taduran is all set to defend his title against Brandon Moreno of Spain this November — right here on Philippine soil! And he could not be any happier to fight in front of his own people!
The proud son of Albay shared the wonderful news Friday after a light workout at the Elorde Sports Complex in Parañaque, Metro Manila.
At 29, Taduran stands tall as the Philippines’ sole world boxing champion — and his heart is simply overflowing with joy that his loyal kababayans will finally get to cheer him on in person. 👍
“I am so happy my fight will be right here in the Philippines! All those who have known me and supported me through the years — they will finally be able to watch me live. That makes me so, so happy,” Taduran said with a smile that reached his eyes.
“I promise to give my all — fight my very best — and show everyone a truly wonderful bout. And having all my supporters right there in the arena? That is a huge advantage for me!”
Exact date and venue are still being finalized, and we shall bring you those details the moment they are confirmed.
Known inside the ring as “El Heneral,” the 5-foot-3 Taduran carries a solid record of 20 wins, 4 losses, 1 draw, and is currently riding an impressive six-fight winning streak.
Standing in his way is Español challenger Brandon Moreno, the IBF’s No. 4 contender.
At 5-foot-5, the Madrid-born boxer is still unbeaten at 16–0, with 5 wins by knockout.
Moreno most recently fought in June, defeating Nicaraguan Reyneris Gutiérrez (11–4, 2 KOs) by unanimous decision.
This will be his first time ever fighting outside Spain — he has won national and regional titles back home, but he has never faced anyone of Taduran’s caliber. Not even close.
Taduran, meanwhile, remains calm and focused:
“I haven’t yet seen all of his fights on video, but I have studied his record. He is taller than me, yes — so we will bring in taller sparring partners to match his style. But honestly? I am used to fighting taller opponents. It is all part of the game — and I am ready.”
Come September, El Heneral shifts into full battle mode — sharpening his skills, strengthening his spirit, and preparing to give his countrymen a performance they will not forget. Guiding Taduran will be his head coach "Hardstone" Art Monis.
