Where were you born and please speak on your upbringing?
I was born in Pingtung, southern Taiwan, I'm the eldest child in my family with a younger brother. Due to my family environment, I've always loved sports and am familiar with many sporting events. I've been involved in many sports since childhood, such as basketball, handball, and even taekwondo. My father is a man of few words, but he always quietly supports the family. He and my mother are almost always there to cheer us on at our matches. My mother used to be a national football player, and she's always known how tough it is for athletes. Therefore, she hoped my brother and I would focus on our studies. However, because my brother and I are very active and have achieved good results in sports, and because we both stick to our interests and have our own goals, our family has supported us all the way to the present.
When did you first begin boxing?
I started formal boxing training at the age of 13.
What led you to take up boxing?
Because my uncle is a boxing coach, I often watched boxing matches from a young age. Having always loved sports since elementary school, this environment inspired me to participate in boxing.
What was your amateur boxing experience?
I participated in numerous domestic competitions and won several national championships. I also represented Taiwan at the AIB World Boxing Championships in 2021.
What did you learn from your only professional loss?
I still vividly remember my lone loss. It was an important experience in my career and taught me to improve much more on defense.
How was your experience in your recent US debut?
For boxers worldwide, competing in the United States is a significant milestone and experience, allowing them to gain recognition more quickly. I felt very excited, and I thought the scale of the event, the arrangements for the fighters, and the safety were all excellent.
What do you know about your opponent?
I've watched many of his fight videos and know he has an advantage in height and reach.
Do you feel pressured to win by knockout since your the visiting fighter?
This is a fight on the opponent’s home turf, so a knockout is the best way to ensure victory.
How has your preparation been for this fight?
Our team immediately started preparing for this fight after my last bout in May. This is my first fight in the Philippines, and I'm determined to let the Filipino audience know that I am a formidable fighter from Taiwan.
What would it mean for you and your country to become the first male of your country to become world champion?
Very few professional boxers in Taiwan have ranking points. Everyone still values Olympic athletes or national team members because the system and environment in Taiwan is difficult for some professional boxers to survive in.
Winning a world title is not only my lifelong dream and goal, but also incredibly meaningful for Taiwan as a whole. Only by truly winning a world championship can Taiwan better support and help more Taiwanese athletes in the future development in professional boxing.
How far away do you feel you are from getting in world title contention or event challenging for a world title?
In terms of ability, I believe I absolutely have a chance to achieve it. As I previously mentioned, we need to invest more resources locally with more competitions to help and accumulate experience. I don't think it will be too long. Our team is working hard on finding suitable matches like my upcoming bout, and I believe that soon I will be able to earn opportunities against the elite in my division.
