Yesihati Yeerken (12-8) pulled off a major upset in Ballarat, Australia, stunning hometown favorite Victor Nagbe (12-3) to win the WBA Oceania super welterweight title.
The fight was hard fought from the start. Nagbe came out aggressively early, looking to set the pace and take control of the match.
But as the rounds went on, Yeerken’s body punches began to slow Nagbe down. Late in the fight, the damage added up and Nagbe struggled to keep the same intensity. After 10 rounds, Yeerken was awarded a split decision victory, securing the WBA Oceania title in a closely contested bout.
Following the win, Yeerken said: “I want to thank everyone, Sanman Boxing, my trainer and my team for this. I work so hard to be a champion.”
