The president of the International Amateur Boxing Association, AIBA, says he feels ?very confident? that efforts to have women compete in the 2012 London Olympic Games will be successful.

AIBA president Ching-Kuo Wu in an interview with www.insidesports.ph, Manila Standard and Viva Sports said ?I feel very confident? about women?s boxing being included in the London Olympics.

He said the chairwoman of the AIBA Women?s Commission , Ms. Joyce Bowen and her members are ?putting together a thorough proposal to put forward to the International Olympic Committee.?

President Wu said that once this proposal is finalized and sent to the IOC, it is the IOC Executive Board who will decide whether women?s boxing will be included in the 2012 Olympic Games.

In another historic move the AIBA president is crafting a plan hand-in-hand with IMG ? the International Marketing Group ? to allow professional boxers to compete in the Olympics similar to what was done with the ?Dream Team? of the US which was made up of NBA players who won the gold medal in the Barcelona Olympics in 1992.

Wu said this is in part why he has introduced the AIBA World League. He said the world league ?will give boxers the chance to turn professional, compete in the World League and also compete in the Olympic Games? adding that this is why the World League ?is so exciting.?

The AIBA president was confident that the best athletes who participate in the Olympic Games and the World Championships today ?will become the stars of the AIBA World League tomorrow.?

The AIBA president believes the World League is ?a brilliant concept giving the stars of our sport the chance to compete in a global competition while at the same time being still looked after by the boxing family.?

Wu said that at this stage AIBA is ?working closely? with the internationally renowned sports marketing company IMG ?to work on all the details of the project? and promised to reveal more details once they are confirmed.
