MONTRÉAL, August 18, 2026 — As Steve Claggett’s contract comes to an end, Quebec-based promoter Eye of the Tiger has made the decision not to renew its agreement with the Canadian boxer, bringing an end to a partnership that spanned more than five years and nearly 20 fights.
“Boxing is a demanding sport, in which you sometimes have to make difficult decisions at the right time. We have always believed in prioritizing the long-term career and future of our athletes, and it is in that spirit that we have chosen not to renew our agreement with Steve. We are proud of the journey we shared, grateful for all the moments he gave us, and we wish him nothing but the best moving forward,” commented EOTTM President Camille Estephan.
For nearly a decade, Calgary, Alberta’s own Steve Claggett (40-9-2, 28 KOs) captured the hearts of Quebec boxing fans. His local bouts against Junior Ulysse, David Theroux and Mathieu Germain undoubtedly left their mark on the public. But it was also his rise on the international stage that drew attention. From 2021 to 2024, the fighter nicknamed the “Dragon,” a nod to his Chinese heritage, won nine consecutive fights. His November 2023 victory, in the main event of an EOTTM gala held at Casino de Montréal, against top-10 world contender Miguel Madueno, was undoubtedly the most significant. Known for his high punch output, the protégé of trainer Mike Moffa lived up to his reputation by landing more than 512 punches over 10 rounds, a feat accomplished only four times in the history of the Compubox record. Becoming WBO International champion, while already holding the NABF super-lightweight title, he earned a world championship opportunity in June 2024, where he displayed tremendous grit and courage over 12 rounds against defending champion Teofimo Lopez. From his signing in September 2019 to today, the partnership between EOTTM and Claggett produced an extremely positive record of 13 wins in 16 fights, including 11 KO victories.
