WBO featherweight champion Steven Luevano (36-1-1, 15KOs) retained his title with a unanimous twelve-round decision over previously unbeaten Australian Billy Dib (21-1, 11KOs) in a lackluster fight on the Bernard Hopkins ? Kelly Pavlik fight card at the Boardwalk in Atlantic City.
The HBO television panel ridiculed the scorecard of judge Adelaide Byrd who had Luevano the winner 115-113 and Dave Moretti who scored it for Luevano 116-112. The third judge Joseph Pasquale appeared to reflect the superiority of Luevano scoring it for the champion, 117-111.
Byrd who has faced criticism in the past came under fire for her scorecard with the panel posing the question whether there was another fight in the arena and saying that maybe the judge was scoring it in terms of "Dancing with the Stars" in reference to Dib's antics.
Dib tried to impress by dancing around like his idol Prince Naseem Hamed but the difference was he hardly threw punches and didn?t seem to have any power.
The Australian?s showboating tactics didn?t impress the cool and collected Luevano who turned aggressive in the eighth round more out of frustration than anything else and nailed Dib with a couple of solid shots.
Dib attempted to stand in ground and engage Luevano but got caught with some solid counter-punches in the final two rounds that stopped him in his tracks.
