Former WBC light flyweight champion Edgar Sosa who lost his title to the Philippines Rodel Mayol by a somewhat controversial 2nd round TKO on November 21, 2009 has successfully defended his flyweight international crown with a unanimous twelve round decision over Japan?s Masafumi Okubo in Monterrey, Mexico.

Sosa wrested the WBC International title from Ryan Bito of the Philippines with a 10th round TKO on September 11 after dropping Bito twice in the round.

With the win Sosa the 31 year old Sosa improved to 41-6 with 24 knockouts while the loss dropped the 30 year old Okubo, the former Oriental and Pacific champion to 18-4-1 with 6 knockouts.

All three judges had Sosa a comfortable winner by scores of 120-108, 118-110 and 119-109.

Okubo lost his OPBF title by a majority decision to hard-hitting Filipino Rocky Fuentes in Japan last March 9.
