WBC Silver super flyweight champion Oscar Ibarra of Mexico has successfully defended his title with a unanimous decision over Japan's Junichiro Sugita at Jose Cuervo Salon in Polanco, Mexico, Sunday morning Manila time.
Ibarra had the better of the exchanges in the early stages of the title fight and overcame an effort by the game Japanese challenger to turn things around in the later rounds.
All three judges scored the fight for Ibarra with two of them giving the Mexican champion a 115-113 edge and the third judge scoring it by a wider 116-113 margin.
With the win the 25 year old Ibarra improved his record to 26-4 with 16 knockouts while Sugita dropped to 16-6 with 7 knockouts.
