The president of the World Boxing Council, Don Jose Sulaiman has congratulated female boxers Ana Maria Torres and Jackie Nava for their incredible performance during the first ever Diamond championship in the female category last Sunday, Manila Time.
Ana Maria Torres, who is the current super flyweight world champion met Jackie Nava, the current super bantamweight interim champion in a rematch after they fought to a unanimous draw a few months ago.
In a fight that showcased style, class, punching power, blood and drama Ana Maria Torres scored a very close unanimous decision..
Sulaiman said ?The first WBC diamond belt belongs to Ana Maria Torres and the WBC is proud to congratulate her for a great victory and to recognize Jackie Nava for her determination and effort which made female boxing confirm its position in the world.?
The WBC president noted that ?for many years female boxing suffered from prejudice and discrimination and many fighters had to fight in illegal and inhuman conditions for several years but now we are proud that female boxing has positioned itself all over the world.?
Sulaiman offered congratulations to all.
