The veteran boxer did his best in his opening contest and eliminated South American Games silver medalist Argentinean Alberto Melian by an extremely close 13:12.?

The tournament, which also serves as the main qualifier for boxing in the 2012 London Olympics, drew 570 boxers from 130 countries. The Philippines has 6 entries. At least 3 wins assure a boxer of a slot in the Olympiad.
