Just as we and many other boxing writers had predicted, the junior middleweight battle between devastating punchers Alfredo Angulo and James Kirkland turned into a war with Kirkland scoring a 6th round TKO in a fight that must surely be a top candidate for "Fight of the Year."
The WBC title eliminator in the picturesque tourist resort of Cancun, Mexico was action-packed from the opening bell with Angulo dropping Kirkland in the first 30 seconds of the fight and Kirkland coming back furiously.
With the win Kirkland is expected to get a shot at WBC super welterweight champion Saul ?Canelo? Alvarez.
The Kirkland-Angulo fight will be telecast by AKTV IBC Channel 13 on ?Big Time Bakbakan? at 9:00 p.m. tonight in a fight boxing fans shouldn't miss.
As boxing writer Gary Purfield pointed out ?nobody is coming into the ring to get cute? because when Angulo and Kirkland step into the ring they are ready to go to war with no real attention to the finer aspects of boxing." And that's exactly what happend.
